Teaching, driving a bus, being a school nurse, secretary or even a custodian is a profession.
As professionals, we belong to an organization that promotes public education, offers benefits,
and helps us resolve our problems. When we face challenges, the Mehlville NEA is there to
help.
When faced with a difficult problem or situation, the first person to contact is your building
representative. Your building representative will know who to contact and what your next
course of action will be. Hopefully, this will result in a solution to the problem. If at all possible, it
is to the benefit of all involved to keep the problem at the building level. As a teacher, you like
parents to come to you if they have any problems instead of going to the administration. The
same if true when you have a problem.
Your building representative will know to contact either the Professional Rights and
Responsibilities Chairperson, the appropriate vice president or the local president. If needed,
the president can then contact our UniServ Director. No one wants to have a problem that
becomes this serious, but it is there if we need it.
Other problems we face can also be handled through your association. Your leaders are in
constant contact with the central office administrators and are always there to promote your
ideas and concerns. All you need to do is contact your building representatives.
Remember, when faced with a problem;
FOLLOW THE CHAIN OF
COMMAND.
It is the professional thing to do.
